Taiwan: Work Permits and Visas

Traveling to Taiwan (People’s Republic of China) generally requires a visa; both the foreign national’s country of residence and the country of origin determine visa requirements.

Most foreign nationals may obtain short-term visitor visas through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office or Republic of China (ROC) embassy or consulate unless they are from countries that participate in Taiwan’s visa-exempt program. Taiwan has an immigration system that differentiates foreign nationals from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) nationals and citizens of Hong Kong (Chinese Special Administrative Region) SAR and Macau (Chinese Special Administrative Region) SAR.
