Mary Anne Thompson is the Founder and President of Going Global, Inc., a company that researches and distributes country specific career and employment information to more than one million customers worldwide. Going Global’s international client list includes colleges, libraries, multi-national corporations and public institutions, such as The U.S. Department of State.
The unique content researched by Going Global provides the international job seeker with a comprehensive tool kit for evaluating, selecting and transitioning into a successful career in a foreign country. Of particular note is that the material found in the Going Global Country Career Guide series is predominately comprised of hand-gathered material that is not otherwise available, either on-or-off line.
Ms. Thompson has created and managed numerous overseas employment initiatives for the US Department of State, including a variety of special projects for the Director General of the Foreign Service. The goal of these employment programs is to assist the more than 10,000 overseas family members with identifying and obtaining jobs on the local economy. She also helps to train State Dept staff who provide career counseling services for family members in overseas missions.
Ms. Thompson spent four years in Europe writing career columns and giving seminars on topics ranging from job searching techniques and interviewing tactics to preparing resumes and CV’s for the international market. Her career advice has been featured in numerous publications and web sites, including The Wall Street Journal career sites. Ms. Thompson’s first book, The Global Resume & CV Guide (John Wiley, Publisher), was the first publication on the market with job-hunting advice for more than 40 countries.
Ms. Thompson is also a lawyer and government relations’ specialist, with 14 years experience working with the federal government and private industry in Washington, D.C. She served as an attorney and advisor to President Ronald Reagan in the White House and for Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole. Ms. Thompson was nominated by former President George Bush to the U.S. Small Business Advisory Council in recognition of her many entrepreneurial activities.
