Keeping in touch overseas

Posted on May 13, 2009

Going overseas whether for the first time or the tenth offers almost unlimited opportunities to experience new cultures, see new places and generally expand your personal and professional expertise. One of the valuable aspects of any international experience is being able to relate to your “home” and share your newly discovered knowledge with your family, friends and colleagues. To accomplish this, there are a variety of communications options that are well-suited to the expat lifestyle.

The options range from the well-known and widely available (i.e., telephones) to slightly more tech-savvy (VoIP and blogs). Depending on what you are looking to accomplish through your communications you could also consider a combination of tools.

  • Telephone calls
  • VoIP Services
  • Email
  • Blogs
  • Instant messaging services

You can read the whole article on our site to get a better explanation of the different options for each type of communication channel.

Some additional ways for people to connect include services such as podcasting and webcasting. These tools require a bit more equipment to ensure that the information and the “shows” are easy to listen to or watch, but they can provide a richer experience for the audience.
